Our Vision
We are building a set of tools to be able to understand user location on a whole new level, with unprecedented precision. This is what we call a hyper-precise location. Unlike the regular GPS-based location, the hyper-precise location will give you down to a centimeter precision, whether you are talking about user location relative to each other, or user location relative to things in the real world.
Our Approach
It is impossible to achieve this goal without introducing some radical new ideas. Here are some key approaches that we are using to achieve hyper-precise location:
We are taking advantage of multiple sensors that are available in mobile devices, including GPS, Bluetooth, accelerometer, as well as the others. While we want to take an advantage of tried-and-true tools, we are also experimenting with some entirely new ideas. We don't rely on any single approach - everything we do adds up to provide better understanding of user location, and each next step builds on the previous one.
Use “social location”, which considers the relative locations of multiple users, where each one contributes to a better location precision for all participants. It is better to rely on location reported by a thousand of devices than just one. Every user can contribute to better location of everyone else. We believe that this can be done in a secure and privacy-sensitive way.
Use smart server-based technology to process signals from many devices in real-time. This logically follows from the previous point - if we rely on the locations reported by many users, each using multiple sensors, we must be able to analyze this huge amount of information to compute hyper-precise location for each participant.
Our Experience
We understand that we are trying to solve a highly complex problem. Fortunately, we have a record of solving just this sort of problems. Our experience includes many years in technology companies, where we have built a social location-based system with many millions of concurrent users, among other things.
